Gastrointestinal History
Home > High Risk Information > Gastrointestinal History

Risk Issue:
Diseases and disorders of the digestive system (liver, gall bladder and pancreas) are considered here. Some that receive special underwriting attention are: Crohn's Disease, where an inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract occurs, and Ulcerative Colitis, an inflammation of the mucosal layer of the wall of the large bowel.
Liver disorders due to viruses or toxins including drugs and alcohol are also underwritten carefully. Individuals with a history of cirrhosis may not be insurable. Certain types of hepatitis present unique placement challenges especially if alcohol or drugs continue to be used. In some cases an individual may not be insurable if the condition is chronic.
Best Class:
It is not possible to accurately predict the classification without review of medical records. However, there is a range of premium guidelines for most histories from rejection to surcharges.
Solutions:
1. Shop around as certain insurance companies have extensive experience underwriting gastrointestinal diseases and have a tendency to offer lowest surcharges.
2. Pay a surcharge for the risk. This may be unavoidable based on your history.
Note:
Term life insurance policies may not be available as companies may believe that only cash value plan will generate adequate premium for the contemplated risk.
