Preferred Best - Qualifiers typically have no history of health impairments, no high risk occupation or avocations, take no prescription medication, have an acceptable height weight ratio, and no immediate family history prior to age 65 of impairments such as heart disease or cancer.
Preferred - Acceptance guidelines for Preferred are less stringent than for Preferred Best. Individuals may qualify who take certain perscription medication, weigh more, and have limited family history of impairments.
Standard - If you cannot quality for either of the above because of personal or family history, Standard may be your classification. Note that certain conditions will increase the premium even over the Standard rate such as a height of 5'5 and weight of 350. Some combinations of health and habits may increase the premium over the Standard premium quoted or even cause a declination. Smoker/Tobacco Restricted - Selected competitive companies make exceptions use only of either cigars, chewing tobacco, pipes, smokeless tobacco, nicotine gun or a patch to quit. These few companies rate all the foregoing as Standard or in certain cases Preferred depending on the frequency and type of use.
Smoker/Tobacco - All companies classify cigarette smokers as Tobacco users. Premiums are typically double the standard premium. A few companies will classify you as non-tobacco if you quit use of cigarettes over one year ago. Others require a 2, 3, 4 even 5 years without usage.
